How to guarantee a great tasting wedding cake

Is there such thing as great tasting wedding cake?

How can you guarantee a great tasting wedding cake?  Does great tasting wedding cake even exist?  Is it naive to expect it to taste as good as it looks?  Or will it automatically make them taste dry and heavy, due to the days these cakes take to prepare and perfect?

Is expecting an amazing tasting wedding cake asking too much?

In a word no, it’s not.

Yes wedding cakes do take days to make.  However, as long as it’s a great recipe and baked to perfection, the decorating process, done correctly, won’t effect the taste and freshness of your wedding cake;

Failing this, most cake makers offer taster boxes that you can purchase.

For my couples, who are booked in with me, they receive a complimentary box of cake samples.  These consist of 5 flavours of their choice.  The initial intent of these boxes aren’t to show my couples that my cake tastes amazing, they are infact there to serve the purpose of helping to choose what flavours they would like.

However, they do have a duel purpose.  When it comes to couples requesting to try before they buy, they are perfect.  I am always happy for couples to purchase a box for piece of mind.  And if collecting isn’t convenient, they can be delivered straight to their door!    Once they decide to go ahead and book in with me, the cost of the cake box is then reimbursed against their final wedding cake invoice, so nothing lost!

So how can you guarantee a great tasting wedding cake?

Do your research!  Once you have found the wedding cake maker whose design style you love, you need to start checking them out.

Look at their testimonials.  Do they mention taste AS WELL AS looks?  If they don’t, then be wary!

If you find your cake maker at a wedding fayre or venue showcase, they are most likely to have bought some tasters with them, so this is a great way to get to try before you buy.

Do people really assume wedding cakes never taste as good as they look?

I was talking to a friend’s dad a few weeks back. He always takes the time to ask how my business is going. (At this point I have to mention that he has never tasted any of my cakes. His granddaughter is celiac and I can’t risk baking for her, bearing in mind I use gluten in my kitchen).

On this particular day, he started telling me about some professional cupcakes he had been gifted and how he was pleasantly surprised that they tasted good.  “… usually they look fab but taste dry”” he casually mentioned.  I was actually quite shocked and taken aback…to the point that I didn’t comment.

What I should have said was good cake is never dry.  Dry cake is never good!

No excuses!  No compromise!  Great tastng wedding cake only!

Ever since I have had the urge to knock up a cake and gift him a slice.  Then he would know that pretty cake SHOULD ALWAYS taste amazing! No excuses!  And that he hadn’t just struck lucky with those cupcakes.

Good wedding cake is always great tasting!

Admittedly, too, I have sampled my fair share of dry professional cakes at parties (not mine, I also need to add), so I do understand where he’s thoughts were coming from, but let me clear this myth up. Good cake should not only LOOK amazing but TASTE amazing too.

Don’t ever let yourself be short changed in that department. Sample those tasters…know that you are buying good quality flavour as well as beauty.

If you would like to try my cake before booking, my boxes are available for purchasing throughout the year (subject to availability).  These can be collected or, for an additional postage fee, can be delivered to your door.  Then, when you decide to go head with the booking, the taster box fee will be deductible from your final invoice –  so easy!

Not getting married, but would love a cakey treat?

My cake sample boxes are available for anyone to order. They also make the perfect gift or anniversary gift (especially if the same flavours of your wedding cake are ordered).
